World Health Organization Declares Madina as Purest City
Jan 25: The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Madinah Munawarah in Saudi Arabia as the world’s holiest city for Muslims, one of the pues cities in the world.
A team from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited Madinah and inspected all health-related facilities, declaring that Madinah meets all the international standards set for a healthy city.
Medina has a population of over 2 million. The World Health Organization has also issued a certificate in this regard.
The Minister of Health of Saudi Arabia presented the certificate of a healthy city issued to Medina by the World Health Organization to the Governor of Medina, Prince Faisal bin Salman.
The city of Madinah has been acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO) as among the world’s healthiest cities. The holy city gained accreditation after the visiting WHO team said that it met all the global standards required to be a smart city. Madinah is believed to be the first city with a population of more than 2 million to be recognised under the organization’s healthy city program
A total of 22 government, community, charity and volunteer agencies helped to prepare for the WHO accreditation. The city’s integrated program included a strategic partnership with Taibah University to record governments on an electronic platform for the organizations review. The WHO also recommended the university to provide to other National City agencies interested to take part in the healthy cities program.
A committee chaired by the university’s president, Dr. Abdul Assarani, supervised 100 members representing the 22 government, civil, charity and volunteer agencies. Criteria included the goals set by the Madinah Region Strategy Project and launch of “Humanising Cities” program.
According to WHO, “ a healthy city is one that is continually creating and improving those physical and social environments and expanding the community resources which enable people to mutually support each other in performing all the functions of life and develop them to maximum potential”.(CNS)
