Asked Babar Azam if he wants to join Renegades, he certainly is’: Finch jokes about luring Pakistan captain to BBL Aaron Finch said that Babar Azam or any of the Pakistan players would be in great demand if they are available to play in the Big Bash League.
Aaron Finch said that he would like to see Babar Azam and more Pakistani players in the Big Bash League (BBL). Finch joked that he had convinced Babar to sign for the Melbourne Renegades, whom he has been playing for since the 2011/12 season.
I just asked Babar (Azam) if he’s interested in coming and playing for the Melbourne Renegades and he certainly is – and, hopefully, we can announce that signing tomorrow!” Finch told reporters, before saying that he was joking.
“If Babar Azam is available to play Big Bash, any team would love to have him,” the Australian skipper added. It would be great to have more world-class players in our domestic competition,” said Finch.
Pakistan captain Babar has been in imperious form, scoring centuries in the second and third ODIs against Australia as Pakistan won the series 3-0. Australia will now be looking to stop him in the lone T20I on Tuesday, which marks the end of their historic tour of the country.
Babar is obviously as good as anyone for a long time in this format of the game and T20 cricket,” said Finch.
“Any of the Pakistan guys, we love having them as part of our competition. The talent of Pakistan cricket is extraordinary. I think world cricket is better when Pakistan are playing well and world cricket is better when they have the opportunity to play in our domestic league,” said Finch.
The Renegades’ cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars had earlier put out a tweet asking Babar’s Pakistan team mate Haris Rauf to tell him that he would “look good in Green” which is the colour of their jersey. Rauf has been playing for the Stars since the 2019/20 season.
